Important elements in the scenario are time and place.
Minimum time available for this project is six hours on the clock.
Apart from class time you are of course free to work at home.
In school time you are allowed to work in the computer area.

Your teacher will introduce the project. (15 minutes)
2.
Make a short survey of personal ideas and notions about NY: Make a note of everything that comes to your mind. (10 minutes)
3.
Find out which of these ideas are true, and which of them are just fancy. You will verify them briefly through an internet browser. (30 minutes)
Which topics do you still find interesting for a subject?
The publisher has suggested you pay attention to one of the following areas of interest:
History
Immigration
Architecture
The melting pot: multicultural NY
Transportation
Crime
Local government
Entertainment
Sports
But if another topic takes your fancy, you are welcome to do so.
4.
Decide whether
you wish to work individually or with a partner, and
whether you consider adding an oral presentation
(10 minutes)
5.
Formulate the question(s) that you still have on the topics you have chosen. Remember all the time that you work for readers in the age group 14-16. (10 minutes)
6.
The first thing you should do now is getting familiar with the topography of the city by studying a detailed map, especially that of Manhattan. (5 minutes)
7.
Collect information. (90 minutes)
While doing this you should bear in mind whether you also wish to do an oral presentation.
If not, you can spend more time on the article.
The following are five of the internet sites available. Of course you may consult any other site that is convenient to you. But be aware of the time scheme. This is a subject that you may easily get lost in.
8.
Decide on content and lay-out of your article. For examples click here to internet sites presenting travel information. Or check a written guide. (15 minutes)
9.
Write the article, using the grammar- and spelling checker. Check the manual attached. (120 minutes)
10.
Prepare your oral presentation. (30 minutes)

While working you will collect and file prints and worksheets in a folder and add these to your log.
Do not forget to make a complete list of all the internet sites you have visited.
This folder will be handed in to your teacher. It will play a vital part in evaluating your achievement.
You are allowed (in fact you will have to) to work independently for the greater part of the job.
At times, of course, it may be useful to consult the teacher.
You will do this anyway when you are stuck. Moreover it is a good idea to check with your teacher as soon as you have made up your mind about the subject. See process stage 3 above.
